Race: Ragnar Relay NWP "Route 69" Ultra Mixed Masters (34.89 Miles) 04:58:53, Place overall: 23, Place in age division: 2
Total Distance
34.89

The good news is that my calf is back to 100%. The bad is that I feel totally out of shape for this kind of distance. I hung in there, but it was a tough night. Each leg got progressively slower for me as I just sort of ran out of gas. The enthusiasm and effort that my team mates threw down for this race was absolutely epic and made up for anything I didn't bring to the table. I love to be around these people, they really know how to have fun and get it done! Preston was new to our team this year and brought us some serious speed along with his good sense of humor and sportsmanship. He fit right in with the group despite some of our antics. Rob, Tracey, Justina and Lesley all ran even stronger than last year and made sure we finished ahead of the "known" competition in and out of our division. We didn't realize until the next day that a new mixed masters team entered this year and beat us by a couple hours. We definitely have our work cut out for us for next year. Our missing teammate from last year, Eric Davis busted out a quadruple shift volunteering at both ends of the course filling requirements for 4 different teams! He gets my vote for MVP of this event!

Nice job...and I'm sure a nice effort! So you ran 34.89 miles? Ouch!

Hey, wait a minute! Where did the flowing red hair go in the profile picture?

Sounds like a great time.

Ratletrap.... how long were you down & out with your calf? I have a bum left calf right now, and it hasn't gotten better since Monday. I know that I need to let it fully heal before testing it. In the bigger picture, Boston is the most important thing on my horizon, so however long it takes is probably the best. I don't want to miss the big dance!

Derunzo - I injured my calf May 17. Since then I've taken of a week off here and there, but still running as much as I could even though it was sore because of race commitments. So never completely down and out. I think it would have healed a lot faster if I just gave it a couple solid weeks rest all at once though.

Great job on the 2nd place finish! I don't think I'll ever do an ultra. Good for you. I've seen that new profile picture before.

Burt- You've done so many Ragnar Relays, it's time for you to do one on a 6 person team. It's twice the fun spending the whole race with the whole team. Did I already ask you if you are running Vegas this year?

From Burt on Tue, Jul 29, 2014 at 12:53:13 from 184.101.126.100

6 man team? No thanks.

You might have asked me if I'm doing Vegas. And you're certainly the 2nd person to ask me today if I am. Kelli asked me earlier. I'm not doing Vegas this year. It's the same weekend as Ragnar McDowell trail. I think Ragnar shot themselves in the foot by holding both events on the same weekend. I can see them doing Vegas and Florida on the same weekend, but not two that are this close geographically.
